YEREVAN. - Vice speaker of Armenian parliament, MP from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Samvel Nikoyan does not provide any comments on the rumors about him becoming the new speaker of the parliament.

“Why do you think that I should make any comments on that subject? Reporters spread those rumors so make comments by yourself. I just read about it in the papers, I do not have anything else to say,” Samvel Nikoyan told reporter of Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Nikoyan left the question ‘Would you agree to become the next speaker if you were offered?’ unanswered.

During the session of RPA’s executive body it was decided that Armenia’s current speaker of parliament Hovik Abrahamyan will lead the party election campaign. Hovik Abrahamyan accepted the offer and resigned on his own initiative in order to prepare for the elections properly. The possible candidates for the new speaker are Samvel Nikoyan and Davit Harutyunyan. The later has already announced that the position does not interest him.
