El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele is in the lead in the election of the head of state after 70.25% of ballots were counted. He has 83% of the popular vote, according to data published on the website of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of the Republic.

1,662,313 votes were cast for Bukele, while his closest rival, former lawmaker Manuel Flores, received 139,025. In all, more than 1.99 million votes were counted.

Earlier, Bukele said he won Sunday's presidential election with more than 85 percent of the vote, and his “New Ideas” party won 58 of the 60 seats in the Legislative Assembly (unicameral parliament) in the parliamentary election.
