Armenian clergy say they become victims of harassment by ultra-Orthodox Jews in the streets of Old Jerusalem.

Ultra-Orthodox young men curse and spit at Christian clergymen in the streets of Jerusalem’s Old City as a matter of routine, Haaretz newspaper writes.

According to the newspaper, in most cases Christian clergymen ignore the attacks but sometimes strike back.  Last week the court rejected indictment against Armenian priesthood student Johannes Martarsian who had punched the man who spat at him.

Armenian clergymen say all the priests from the senior cardinals to the priesthood students are victims of harassment. Despite numerous complaints, police usually fails to find the perpetrators.

The Greek Patriarchy’s clergymen also complain about ultra-Orthodox young people saying they are spitting at them in Jerusalem streets.
