At present, there is a divide in Armenia between the declared values and the reality, PM Tigran Sargsyan stated during his address at the European People’s Party Political Assembly session being held in Brussels.   

“We have faith that democratic reforms in Armenia have a potential for a change in conduct,” he noted. 

“Change is taking place quicker than ever before in today’s world. So, Armenia must speed up the reforms and the institutional transformation. Owing to EU’s assistance, we already have materialized several important projects. (…) Furthermore, we have created one of the world’s simplest systems for registering enterprises, thus stimulating the process of starting business in Armenia. Two other important programs, entitled “Support to Justice” and “Support to Access to Justice in Armenia,” are currently underway. (…) In the World Bank’s Doing Business Report, we went up six places and are considered the country with the most number of reforms carried out between May 2010 and June 2011,” the PM stated.   

“About the negative, (…) the unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the absence of diplomatic relations with Turkey are serious threats for the stability and security of our region. These two factors plus the presence of closed borders with Turkey drastically reduce the opportunities for diversifying our economy,” Tigran Sargsyan stressed.
