Six people, including four children, died in a shooting in Ottawa, the capital of Canada; the suspect was arrested, reports the local police.

The Ottawa Police Homicide Unit is investigating the deaths of six people whose bodies were found shortly before 11pm last night. One person has been taken into custody, there is no current threat to public safety, the Ottawa police said in a statement on X—formerly Twitter.

Police had responded to a 911 call and found six dead bodies at the scene.

Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs told CBC that they had died as a result of a mass shooting.

The identities of the victims have not been confirmed at this time.
