YEREVAN.- Problems in the South Caucasus should be resolved peacefully, through diplomacy, through the political efforts of the parties, said Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre who is in Armenia on a two-day official visit.
According to Jonas Gahr Støre, in the case of the Karabakh conflict, Norway supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and the international community.
However, the diplomat, in fact, ducked the question addressed by the Armenian News - NEWS.am correspondent whether the Norwegian government is concerned over a possibility that Azerbaijan may use the proceeds received from the Norwegian investment for the purchase of new weapons.
“Norway has good, long-term relations with Azerbaijan, in particular in the economic sphere. Norwegian companies engaged in oil sector meet the highest criteria,” he said.
Foreign Minister said that his government expects that Norwegian companies are working not only in accordance with national legislation of the country, but in accordance with international standards.
In addition to the Norwegian oil company Statoil, other Norwegian companies are represented in Azerbaijan as well. Among them are Wenaas, which produces clothing and equipment for the oil sector, Aker Solutions - engaged in the field of drilling and Akvamiljø Caspian is undertaking environmental monitoring of the Caspian Sea and Sangachal terminal.
