YEREVAN. - Customs should pay stricter attention to textiles imported to Armenia, head of the Armenian Tosp knitting factory Suren Bekirsky told Armenian News-NEWS.am. According to him, competitiveness with the Turkish import is quite huge.

Turkish import occupies not only essential part of the readymade knitting but it also serves as a raw material for local companies.

“We use cotton, the raw material of which is brought from Turkey. Besides, about 80% of the Armenian market is occupied by Turkish products,” Bekirsky said and added that it is not easy to deal with the Turkish companies, as they do not conclude long-term contracts.

Total output of Tosp company made AMD 156 million ($418,000), while export made AMD 33.5 million ($90,000) for last year. Total output of all Armenian knitting products made AMD 314.6 million ($843,000).
