YEREVAN. - Ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia is working in all directions, whereas the remaining parties, specifically the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) is still passive, People’s Party (PP) Chairman Tigran Karapetyan on Thursday stated, during a press conference, adding that the recent reshufflings in posts are pre-election oriented.

Reflecting on these reshufflings, Karapetyan noted that, according to the government’s logic, these reshufflings must yield results. “The presidents always suffer a defeat in [the capital] Yerevan, for the simple reason that five thousands do not help,” PP leader maintained.

In his words, the authorities are trying to gain the favor of Yerevan residents, and the appointments of Taron Margaryan, as [most likely] Yerevan Mayor, and of Vladimir Gasparyan, as Police Chief, are conditioned with this.

As per Tigran Karapetyan, the authorities are suspicious of everyone. “If a considerable part of the people does not accept the authorities and does not accept [Armenia’s First President and ANC leader] Levon Ter-Petrosyan, they can vote for us, as an alternative party,” he stated.

Tigran Karapetyan also intends to run in the 2013 presidential elections.
