YEREVAN. - Private investment issues for strengthening buildings in Yerevan are under discussion, Yerevan Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan told the journalists. Areyan participated in the intermediate results presentation of the study of seismic risks in Yerevan. The study was conducted by a Japanese group.

In response to the question whether Japanese experience was appropriate for Armenia, Areyan confessed that the situation is quite different. Regarding the experience, deputy mayor said that Japan is richer, and technical opportunities are bigger.

The prior issue for multi-apartment buildings in Yerevan is their strengthening.

“Serious investments are required to complete the work. The issue is not as urgent as presented. However, issues may rise in future if preventive measures are not taken,” Areyan said and added that size for required investments is not fixed yet.

The deputy mayor also stressed the importance of raising the public awareness.
