YEREVAN. – Recent resignations in the ruling authority caused discontent of society, though the same people were protesting against staff stagnation, ruling Republican Party MP Hamlet Harutyunyan told the journalists on Friday.
Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan, Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan resigned, while Chief of Police Alik Sargsyan was dismissed from the office during the recent month.
“Many officials were to be dismissed from the office as they did not correspond to it. This process was necessary,” the MP said.
In response to whether the Speaker as well did not fulfill his duties properly, Harutyunyan said that the Speaker himself has decided to resign. Resignation and dismissal are quite different things, the MP added.
Ruling MP preferred not to express any viewpoint on what official did not correspond to his office. It is prerogatives of the President and PM, I have nothing to add, the MP concluded.
