YEREVAN. - Great Britain welcomes the Armenian authorities’ intention to hold primarily clean and transparent elections, British Ambassador Charles Lonsdale stated during a press conference on Monday. 

“We welcome Armenian President’s and PM’s declaration that the coming elections must become the most transparent and the fairest in Armenia’s history. This is a wonderful opportunity to show the development in democratization,” the Ambassador noted, adding that the European Union (EU) aims to support this wish.  

In his words, Great Britain and its other EU partners will conduct a long-term and active monitoring in Armenia. And in the context of domestic politics, Ambassador Lonsdale stated that the March 1, 2008 tragedy in Armenia’s capital Yerevan has greatly impacted the political climate and processes.
