YEREVAN. – When elections are fair and transparent the results may be different, ruling Republican Party MP Hovhannes Sahakyan said at a press conference on Monday commenting on Prosperous Armenia Party candidate’s victory over Republican candidate Varuzhan Nersisyan in the elections for Idjevan city Mayor.
“The team which works better will win. I will not give preliminary assessments, as the results have not been concluded yet. Republican Party representatives make 70% of community administrative staff. Thus, it is normal for other parties to compete with them. I do not exclude that in case of normal, free and transparent elections the results may have been different,” Sahakyan said.
According to the MP, all political powers should concentrate on holding free and transparent elections.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier Prosperous Armenia Party candidate Vardan Ghalumyan won in the elections for Idjevan city Mayor of Tavush Region.
Ghalumyan polled 5044 votes, while former Mayor Nersisyan - 3406. On the whole, 8712 people participated in the elections.
