YEREVAN. – Ruling Republican Party of Armenia way lose one out of hundred local elections, Republican MP Gagik Melikyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am commenting on the defeat of the Republican party candidate in the elections for Idjevan city Mayor.

"I am pleased by the viewpoint formed in the society that Republicans should always win. Defeat in Idjevan local self-governmental elections seems as if not to be accepted. This testifies that Republicans are the most powerful political party and it is hard to believe in its failure,” Gagik Melikyan said and added that Republicans can lose in one case out of hundred and congratulate the newly elected Mayor.

Melikyan rejected reports that there were violations during the elections.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier Prosperous Armenia Party candidate Vardan Ghalumyan won in the elections for Idjevan city Mayor of Tavush Region.

Ghalumyan polled 5044 votes, while former Mayor Nersisyan - 3406. On the whole, 8712 people participated in the elections.
