Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said Istanbul is suitable as the city that will host the NATO summit in 2026, although there has been no decision yet.

"At the moment we have not yet decided which city it will be. We will discuss it and make an assessment. I think, of course, Istanbul would be quite suitable to host such an event. We will be able to organize such a large summit in Istanbul, where we have previously held such a thing. I hope it will be Istanbul and we will greet the world from there together in NATO," Erdogan said at a press conference in Washington following the NATO summit.

The final declaration of NATO leaders states that they will hold the next meeting in June 2025 in The Hague in the Netherlands, followed by a summit in Turkey in 2026.
