YEREVAN. – Forty-three cases of drug counterfeiting were recorded in 2001-2011, Hakob Topchyan, Director of the Scientific Center of Drug and Medical Technology Expertise, stated during a press conference on Tuesday.

Most counterfeiting was recorded in nutritional supplements. Specifically, fake drugs enhancing sexual potency are widespread, as the “alikaps” substance is mixed into the drug and it is sold a Viagra.     

As per Topchyan, however, drug counterfeiting cases were not recorded in the past three years. In contrast to other countries, Armenia conducts quality inspection of drugs at the border.
