YEREVAN. – There is no control over medicine prices in the market, ruling Republican Party MP, coordinator of Armenia youth foundation Karen Avagyan told the journalists on Tuesday. 

According to him, the price for medicine increases by 200% from wholesale to retail. Avagyan offers to fix the list of the most demanded medicine and set a maximum price for them.

He also advises that doctors should not prescribe only brand medicine. The market is full of less expensive medicine as well, which do not have less medical value.

Hakob Topchyan, Director of the Scientific Center of Drug and Medical Technology Expertise, said that all drugs produced in Armenia are generic, except Armenikum. There are 14 companies, which produce 500 types of medicine. Generally there are about 4500 types of medicine sold in Armenia.
