TBILISI. – Relations between the Armenian and Georgian peoples are founded on respect and brotherhood, Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan stated during a joint press conference with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, in Tbilisi, on Tuesday.

“In the past year, activeness of the cooperation between the two countries was unprecedented,” Sargsyan noted, underscoring the signing of the document which will regulate the border sphere between Armenia and Georgia.

Armenia’s President also noted that during the meeting they discussed virtually all matters on Armenian-Georgian cooperation. In his words, the trade turnover has increased by twenty percent in the year past.   

Serzh Sargsyan also noted that the North-South Highway will operate, in 2012, which will connect to the Ninotsminda-Batumi road, and this will enable cargo transport from the Persian Gulf to Georgia via good quality road.    

During the meeting the parties also discussed regional matters. And President Serzh Sargsyan noted that relations between Armenia and Georgia can be qualified as good neighborly.
