YEREVAN. – Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan denied the information that the Police Force is deliberately exerting pressure on the ruling coalition’s Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), by arresting and imprisoning its supporters, in the past several days. “The Police Force is not a [beating] club that it should deal with this,” Gasparyan told RFE/RL.

He asserted there is no such tendency, also denying that PAP Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan had demanded an explanation from him.

The Police Chief clearly ruled out the applying of any political pressure upon PAP. “By and large, a person’s political party affiliation does not matter at all for me. Gagik Tsarukyan did not demand an explanation from me, and I am accountable to no one but the society,” Vladimir Gasparyan noted.
