YEREVAN. – During National Assembly’s (NA) next session, which will get underway on Monday, the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will be unable to bring to fruition one of RPA Board session’s decisions and designate RPA MP and Press Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov as NA Deputy Speaker, Zhoghovurd daily writes.

“This matter is technically impossible for a simple reason. None of the [current] NA Deputy Speakers has yet submitted a resignation. So, it is logical that the election of NA Deputy Speaker is not on the agenda of the NA four-day session to commence on Monday.

The authorities now have one way to resolve this matter: to convene a special NA session after the election of NA Speaker. Or, they could wait until February, when the next four-day [session] will be convened. [But] Judging from RPA’s dispositions, they are set to solve Sharmazanov’s election issue as quickly as possible, that is, by way of a special [session],” Zhoghovurd daily writes.
