YEREVAN. – During the Armenian National Assembly’s (NA) four-day session, which got underway on Monday, it will be impossible to elect as Deputy Speaker the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP and Press Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov. This is because the two Deputy Speakers’ posts are not vacant at this time.

This post will become vacant only if current NA Deputy Speaker Samvel Nikoyan is elected new Speaker, and since such thing has not yet taken place, the election of Deputy Speaker cannot be included in the session agenda.

That is, in order for Eduard Sharmazanov to be elected NA Deputy Speaker, a special session must be convened, either after the regular four-day session, or on the days of the session, but after 6 p.m.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, during its December 1 session, RPA Board decided to nominate Samvel Nikoyan as the new NA Speaker, and Eduard Sharmazanov, as Deputy Speaker.

And Gagik Melikyan will replace Sharmazanov as RPA Parliamentary Faction Secretary.
