YEREVAN. – Russia’s State Duma elections resulted in what was expected; there were no particular surprises, Armenia’s parliamentary opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party’s Supreme Body representative, and Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Armen Rustamyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In comparison with the previous elections, Russia’s ruling Yedinaya Rossiya Party lost around 15 percent. And as per Rustamyan, this means that a political battle was waged and that is why the remaining political forces’ rating increased.   

And in response to the question as to whether the election results in Russia would have an impact on Armenia, Armen Rustamyan said: “I do not think so because there will hardly be a serious course change, especially in foreign policy because, after all, everything will be completed with the election of the president, which is not too far away; it is in March. And I do not think that [the current Russian PM Vladimir] Putin will not be elected. And when that happens, too, the Putin policy, which we know well, will further be installed.”
