In its Cabinet meeting Thursday, the government defined the standards and procedure for posting information by hotel service providers in online or other platforms in hotel service advertisements or in announcements about providing hotel service, as well as in hotel facilities in Armenia.

Adoption of this decision will contribute to ensuring proper and transparent activities of hotel service providers in Armenia, level playing field, high quality of services, and access to information in this domain.

The setting of this procedure will enable to ensure the existence of quality services, level playing field in the tourism sector, as well as the transparency and availability of existing information in Armenia.

According to the rationale, a survey was conducted among tourists who visited Armenia during the process of developing the 2019 tourism development strategy of the country. As a result, it was found out that a considerable part of the respondents rated the accommodation services in Armenia either “average” or “below average.”

One of the problems in Armenia’s tourism sector is the hotel facilities that do not correspond to their type and the lack of oversight mechanisms for them.

According to the new law in Armenia’ tourism sector, it is planned to make the activities of persons providing tourist services subject to notification as of September 1, and this will enable introducing new regulations in hotel services in Armenia.

This change will contribute also to the provision of accurate information on services in Armenia, the introduction of oversight mechanisms, and the improvement of statistics in the country’s tourism sector.
