The European direction is a priority for Armenia, President Serzh Sargsyan stated during his meeting, on Wednesday at Marseille City Hall, with the municipal authorities and local Armenian community. 

“We registered a serious success in this domain, in recent years. The European Union has become one of our key partners in the outside world and it [also] plays a key role in Armenia. One of our main activities is to secure Armenia’s deserving place and role in all-European organizations. Armenia’s political field is becoming European, also today, and, in this sense, I wish to extend a special thanks to our European partners, especially to the President of France,” Armenia’s Head of State noted.  

In Sargsyan’s view, the Armenians of Europe can help their Fatherland on this road. “Dual citizenship is in force today. Numerous Diaspora Armenians have a lively and a direct participation in Armenia’s [everyday] life today,” the President remarked.

“[But] It is not easy to leave a familiar environment and to start a new work in one’s own but, in reality, unfamiliar Fatherland. And for that, we need to freely and openly discuss the existing problems, and it is necessary to jointly find ways to eliminate those difficulties and to share the honor and responsibility of success,” President Sargsyan noted, inviting everyone to take part in resolving Armenia’s problems. “And, of course, I am the first [person who is] responsible for those shortcomings,” the President concluded.
