US President Joe Biden has asked Congress for $24 billion for additional aid to Ukraine and replenishment of American weapons stockpile, Politico reports.

According to congressional sources, American lawmakers received the respective request on Monday.

The Biden administration expects that $16 billion will be allocated to the replenishment of American weapons stockpile in order to replace what was given to Ukraine until then.

Another $8 billion are proposed to be provided to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). It envisages the signing of contracts between the US Department of Defense and weapons manufacturers, and not the provision of this or that military equipment from the American stocks.

According to Politico, the Biden administration expects this spending to be included in a bill—which could be passed in December—to extend funding for the work of US federal agencies.
