YEREVAN.- New head of the investigation group on March 1 case Vaghinak Dzhanazyan promises to continue the investigation at the same pace as before.

New head of investigation group was presented to the journalists on Monday. He will replace Vahagn Harutunyan who was appointed to a post in police.

Addressing the journalists, Vahagn Harutyunyan said that about 500 witnesses were questioned on the case. According to him, the main obstacle to the investigation is lack of evidence and unwillingness to help the investigation.

Vaghinak Dzhanazyan assured that replacement of the group’s head will not affect conduction of unbiased investigation.

An official report of the investigation group will be presented in the near future. 

Armenian opposition did not recognize official results of the presidential election held on February 19, 2008. Leader of the opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan organized rallies in the Liberty Square, in the center of Yerevan, which lasted until March 1.

Thousands took to the streets demanding that official election results should be canceled. Ten people, including two law enforcers, became victims of confrontation.
