President Bashar al-Assad of Syria has started seeking ties with Turkey amid the recent events happening in his country, reports Turkiye daily.

The newspaper, citing its sources, reports that the Syrian leader has sent a proposal for negotiations to the Turkish authorities through two mediators.

"Until now, Assad has not responded to the hand extended to him by Turkey," the daily writes, recalling the initiatives of the Turkish authorities to normalize relations with Syria.

Syrian TV had reported earlier that Assad allegedly ordered a delegation to be sent to Antalya, Turkey for negotiations with the Turkish authorities. Sozcu daily of Turkey, however, dismissed this information citing sources from Turkish intelligence services.
