Turkey is ready to contribute to the settlement process in Syria, while it considers any external interference in the situation of the neighboring country wrong, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said after talks with his visiting Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in Ankara.

"Recent events once again show that Damascus must reconcile with its own people and the legitimate opposition. Turkey is ready to make all necessary efforts in that regard. In the coming period, we [i.e. Turkey] will continue to coordinate actions with Iran, with whom we have done important work within the framework of the Astana process. We have always advocated for the territorial integrity and unity of Syria and will continue to do so in the future," said the Turkish FM.

Fidan noted that at this phase it would be a mistake to try to explain the escalation in Syria by external intervention, and called it "the fallacy of those who do not want to understand the realities of Syria."

"The reason for renewed fighting in Syria at this moment is that the interconnected problems of this country have not been resolved for more than 13 years," he added.

Also, the Turkish foreign minister noted that Ankara will not allow terrorist organizations operating in the region to take advantage of the situation.

"Our structures monitor the situation in Syria around the clock and take necessary measures to prevent possible problems," Fidan said.
