Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that a French diplomatic mission will visit Damascus (Syria) on Tuesday for the first time in 12 years, Europe 1 reports.
The aim of the four diplomats sent to Syria will be to “regain our influence there,” the minister specified.
He added that the aim will also be to “establish contacts” with the new authorities and “understand the urgent needs of the population” at the humanitarian level.
