YEREVAN. – In 2011, the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) stood out more by its political activeness, both in terms of its public rallies and issues raised, and its main demand was that of early elections, political scientist, Professor Garnik Keryan stated, during a press conference on Wednesday, summing up the political year.   

“Early elections were not held, but a huge wave of discussions started. This was followed by the ANC-authorities dialogue, which likewise did not yield real results,” Keryan said, also pointing to the wave of personnel changes as another key development in Armenia in 2011. 

And with respect to foreign policy, Garnik Keryan stressed that Russia played an important role in the efforts to resolve the Karabakh conflict. He also maintained that the status quo concerning Karabakh would be maintained probably until next fall.
