Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters about the need to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria during the leadership of former President Bashar al-Assad and to reintegrate the country into the international community.

"Internal conflicts and years of war in Syria have destroyed the infrastructure of cities and the state. The Syrian economy has also collapsed. The lifting of the embargo and restrictions imposed on Syria because of the Assad regime would be useful steps to rebuild the country. Another task is the reintegration of Syria into the international community. Simultaneously, it is necessary also to develop an inclusive constitution and build a political system that will become the basis of the future Syria. No one should forget the fact that the Syrian people decide the future of their country," Erdogan said, reports Anadolu Agency.

Also, the Turkish leader noted "the importance of rebuilding Syrian cities so that Syrian refugees can voluntarily return to their country and establish a stable life there."

"The housing problem [in Syria] must be solved. New residential buildings, business facilities, production and energy facilities, agricultural and livestock enterprises should be built [there] as soon as possible," Erdogan said.

Furthermore, Erdogan emphasized that "there is not enough humanitarian aid for Syria; it is not getting there as was expected."

"Turkey has made a great contribution to Syria in terms of humanitarian aid in the new era. Our help continues and will continue," the Turkish president added.
