YEREVAN. – After Taron Margaryan’s election as Mayor of Armenia’s capital Yerevan, the Deputy Mayor’s post is vacant. And the City Hall is expected to convene a special session devoted to this matter, Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.

“Next session of [Yerevan] the Council of Elders is on December 23, and its agenda likewise does not have any matter on that topic. One of the nominees considered for the First Deputy Mayor was [the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia] RPA [Parliamentary] Faction member, National Institute of Standards Director, Yenok Azaryan. [But,] ‘I did not receive such offer,’ he said. The name of Arman Madatyan, the son of [businessman] Eduard Madatyan (a.k.a. Curly Edo), was circulated, too. [But,] ‘No, I did not receive an offer,’ he said. ‘What is the meaning in [saying] I don’t want [or] I do want? They are not giving it to the person so that he may or may not want it,’ said another deputy mayoral candidate, RPA Board member, Naira Nahapetyan, assuring that she, too, was not made any offer to become Deputy Mayor, as of yet,” Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.
