Greece plans to complete the creation of an air defense dome by the summer of 2026, reports ERT News television of the country.

After the meeting of the Greek government, Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias informed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the strengthening of the country's defense capability by creating an “anti-aircraft anti-ballistic dome.”

Dendias outlined to the PM three main phases of the development of this air defense dome.

The first phase shall be a new force structure which is expected to add an air defense command, which will be responsible for the operation of this dome.

The second phase will include a quick evaluation of proposals from countries with which Greece traditionally cooperates. France, Israel, the UK, and the US are preparing to send their proposals for air defense systems, radars, sensors, and all other elements of this air defense dome. This phase is planned to be completed in the first half of 2025.

An after operational assessment, contracting, etc., the third—and most important—phase is the deployment of systems initially in the Maritsa River region—in the area of the Greek-Turkish land border—and in the eastern Aegean islands, as well as in all other areas where, according to the Greek military leadership, there are critical infrastructures.

This air defense dome shall start operation around the summer of 2026.
