US President-elect Donald Trump has asked Judge Juan M. Merchan to postpone his sentencing on Friday in the case of financial fraud paid by the Trump Organization to former porn actress Stormy Daniels, reports AP.

Trump's lawyers intend to appeal the latest decision of the judge, who denied their request to invalidate the verdict and dismiss the case. The defense argues that filing an appeal should automatically stop further proceedings, but if denied, the judge should delay sentencing.

The New York court scheduled Trump's sentencing on Friday in the case of falsifying the Trump Organization's financial statements. It will happen 10 days before the inauguration of the Republican Party member, which will take place on January 20. The president-elect has been ordered to appear in court in person or virtually.

In late May 2024, Trump was found guilty of all 34 counts of financial fraud. He became the first former president in US history to be convicted of a crime by a jury. And last November, Judge Juan M. Merchan agreed to delay sentencing in the case.
