Indonesia became a full member of BRICS on Monday, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Brazil, which presides over this organization in 2025.

The BRICS members had approved Indonesia's candidacy at the summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa in August 2023, but its membership was postponed until the presidential elections a year later.

The Brazilian MFA noted that Indonesia, which is the country with the largest population and the largest economy in Southeast Asia, fully meets the BRICS requirements and makes a positive contribution to the development of cooperation in the global South.

As of January 1, Indonesia and several other countries—including Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan—have received the status of BRICS partners. Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia had joined this organization last year.
