Turkey’s PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan also joined the Turkish authorities’ appeal-threats addressed to France. 

In his letter sent to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, in connection with the bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide, and which is included on the agenda of the French National Assembly, Turkey’s PM noted that this is a serious problem, and, in bilateral relations, common sense must be more important than political calculations.       

The letter also noted that if the bill is passed, a serious blow would be dealt to the future of current relations between Turkey and France. “The authors of such initiative would bear the responsibility for all this. Relations between France and Turkey should not become a hostage to demands by a third party,” the letter read, Haberturk of Turkey reported. 

To note, the French National Assembly will discuss this bill on December 22. And, in this connection, the Turkish authorities have made threatening statements and also sent a parliamentary delegation to France, to prevent the bill’s passage.
