Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Wednesday he will travel to Syria on Friday where he plans to announce an initial development aid package, AFP reported.

Tajani's trip comes after visits by his French and German counterparts, who visited the Syrian capital last week to meet Syria's new leaders.

“It is important to preserve territorial integrity and prevent the exploitation of (Syria's) territory by terrorist organizations and hostile actors,” Tajani told Italy's parliament.

Tajani gave no details of what he called a “first aid package for cooperation and development.”

But he said he would push for an “inclusive political process” by Syria's transitional government that “recognizes and strengthens the role of Christians as citizens with full rights.”
