France has colossal debt that hangs over the country like the sword of Damocles, Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said in a speech to parliament on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

“All government parties, without exception, are responsible for the situation that has developed over the past decades. Anyone asking for more spending has already taken part in this fateful tango that has brought us to the edge of the abyss,” Bayrou said.
