YEREVAN. – The technical-financial proposition of Armenia’s Vanadzor-Fioletovo railway section is prepared in 2011, Minister of Transport and Communication, Manuk Vardanyan, stated during a press conference on Wednesday.

In his words, this section will shorten the railway link with Georgia by 200 kilometers. “[And] If one day the Azerbaijan direction opens, this, too, would be a very important direction,” Vardanyan added.  

According to initial estimations, a financing worth US$ 200 million is necessary to construct the Vanadzor-Fioletovo railway section. But Vardanyan also noted that this amount is calculated in line with Russian rates, and that the construction would cost lot less if domestic resources are used. The financing will be equally provided by Armenia’s state budget and the South Caucasus Railways Company.
