YEREVAN. – 2011 was a withdrawal in the Karabakh issue as the arms race and hostility inflamed by Azerbaijan brought to the increase of tension. As a result, it caused undesirable incidents in the contact line, head of the parliamentary opposition Heritage group Styopa Safaryan told the Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Yet, Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group managed to preserve a fragile peace. As for defects, the Madrid Principles are still in negotiations. The authorities will later realize its affects,” Safaryan stated.

Regarding the 2012 forecasts, Safaryan said that nothing groundbreaking is expected for the conflict.

“I believe that 2012 promises nothing special in Nagorno-Karabakh issue,” he concluded.
