YEREVAN. – Yerevan held a presentation on problems of education of juvenile offenders and defendants in Armenia on Tuesday. The research was conducted by Social Justice NGO, supported by OSCE Yerevan Office.

The authors of the study took into account not only the national legislation but also the experience of other states on the important issue. The authors offer to amend the government decision, in particular, add provisions on “social restoration and continuation of education.”

They are sure that it is necessary to increase access to distance learning through the Internet. Education and profession should be considered as means of correction on this background.

“It is very important to educate the juvenile offenders in order they later could earn their living,”  Vladimir Chuntulov, the human rights officer at the OSCE Yerevan Office said adding the education is a key component of their further reintegration in the society.
