The 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road, in which the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent is also participating, has started in Kunming city in Yunnan Province of China.

The event has brought together more than 200 foreign representatives from 165 media outlets and several other institutions from 87 countries, international, and regional organizations.

“Countries of the global south ensure the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the Silk Road spirit. We must develop solutions to bring our peoples closer together and ensure shared achievements for the welfare of the peoples of the Silk Road,” said Wang Gang, deputy head of the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China, in his address at the event.

According to him, it is indispensable to make the platforms more effective, to make our contacts and cooperation with the media more frequent in covering the Belt and Road projects, as well as to achieve a new quality in the development and construction of the New Silk Road.

“The Belt and Road Media [Cooperation] Forum plays an important role in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The editorial staff of the People’s Daily [newspaper of China] is actively working in this direction, and the relations between the media are being strengthened and improved. We, as the media, should promote the high-quality construction of the One Belt, One Road Initiative, bear the responsibility of strengthening trust, meet the interests and aspirations of the peoples of the world, and promote cooperation within the Belt and Road framework in the name of shared prosperity. The Belt and Road Initiative platform is important for the development of multipolarity, the improvement of humanitarian exchanges and friendship between peoples, as well as finding new humanitarian content for cooperation between peoples,” said Yu Shaoliang, president of the People’s Daily, in his address.

The forum participants noted that since Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, it has yielded fruitful results, becoming a widely supported international public good and a platform for international cooperation.

Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed an initiative on global governance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization SCO Plus meeting in Tianjin, China, sharing Chinese wisdom and proposing a Chinese solution to build a more just and equitable global governance system. This initiative has also opened up new and broader opportunities for high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The forum participants believed that media outlets from all countries should continue to deepen cooperation, promote and develop the spirit of the Silk Road, and actively promote the idea of a civilization based on equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness. The media should effectively record and report on the achievements in development, continue to comprehensively cover the vivid experience of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, and focus positive energy to achieve cooperation and win-win results. The media should actively participate in and promote mutual learning among civilizations, use quality news materials to improve mutual understanding, eliminate obstacles, and strengthen social power, so that the foundation for building a community of shared future for mankind will be more solid.

The 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road is jointly organized by the editorial board of the People's Daily, the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the People's Government of Yunnan Province. The forum is held under the theme, "Shared Media Responsibility for Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations."

The Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road has been successfully held nine times since its inception in 2014.
