YEREVAN. - Armenia’s 2011 economic activity index is 5.9 percent, states National Statistical Service’s preliminary report, which is made public on Wednesday. 

In line with the report, the industrial and agricultural growth constituted 14.1 percent each, trade grew by 3.5 percent, and the services increased by 6.1 percent. The only reduction, with 11.5 percent, is in construction. 

Also, there was a 14.5-percent growth in electricity production, where surplus electricity was exported primarily to Iran. A total of 7.4 billion kilowatts/hour electricity was produced.

In 2011, the average monthly salary was 115,000 drams (approx. US$ 297), and this increased to 144,200 (approx. $373) in December, because of the New Year bonus pays. 

To note, the 6.1-percent economic activity, which was recorded in December, had a positive impact on Armenia’s macroeconomic indicators.
