YEREVAN. – French Senate’s decision is a huge event at least in Europe, head of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said at Yerevan-Moscow space bridge on Wednesday commenting on the bill adoption by the Senate on criminalizing denial of genocides. 

“Hence, wave of Armenian Genocide recognition rose and it will not be possible to stop,” he said adding the event changed the reality around Turkey and Europe’s attitude to Turkey. “The Turks and their hysteric reaction highly assisted the Senate to adopt the bill.”

The expert believes, it is not serious to think that relations between Turkey and France will be broken. Turks will reconcile, they have no alternative. Ankara’s reaction was based not only on emotions but also aimed to scare France, which is not serious too. The expert believes that Turkey’s and Azerbaijan’s protests against France’s participation in the OSCE Minsk Group are also not serious.

"As for the denial of the Armenian Genocide, no serious people denies it," Iskandaryan said adding majority of cases refer not to the actual denial but people avoid pronouncing the word ‘genocide’ not to irritate the Turks.

While the best way for protection of Turkey from the inevitable wave of recognition is to review its past. It is necessary first of all for the Turkish state and people, moreover, there are already people raising the issue.
