According to the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for resolving the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, Israel will maintain control over around 53 percent of the Gaza Strip, the Ynet portal reports.

According to reporters, following a vote in the Israeli government—during which the aforesaid agreement is expected to be approved once and for all—Israel must withdraw its troops within 24 hours to the boundary agreed upon with the Palestinian radical movement Hamas.

After that, the Israel will retain control over approximately 53 percent of the Gaza Strip.

During the withdrawal of troops, the Israeli army will leave Gaza City, the capture of which had begun as part of operation that was named "Gideon's Chariots II."

US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced on Truth Social that Israel and Hamas had signed agreements concerning the first phase of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip. The American leader explained that this means the release of all hostages as soon as possible, as well as the withdrawal of Israeli forces to agreed borders. Trump added that the parties to the conflict will be on equal terms.
