It would be wrong to view the agreement signed between Israel and Hamas as a document that resolves the Palestinian issue, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated.

“This agreement is essentially a ceasefire. In our view, the only solution to the Palestinian issue is the creation of an independent, sovereign, and geographically unified Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Erdogan added, speaking to reporters upon his return from Egypt.

He noted that “Turkey, as in the past, will resolutely pursue this goal now, too.”

“We must ensure that the Israeli government fulfills its promises, as the credibility of the Israeli side on this matter is extremely insufficient. I am confident that those who have influence over Israel, especially the United States, will continue to do everything necessary,” the Turkish president added.
