A ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which had been interrupted yesterday, has been resumed, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported.

“In accordance with the directive of the political leadership and following a series of significant strikes in response to Hamas violations, the IDF has begun resuming adherence to the ceasefire in accordance with the terms of the agreement,” the statement said.

The military added that it will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and will “respond decisively to any violations.”

On October 19, the IDF carried out a series of strikes against “dozens of terrorist targets” across the Gaza Strip, accusing Hamas of attacking Israeli forces. According to the IDF, Hamas militants fired on a vehicle, killing two Israeli soldiers. In response, Israel struck weapons depots, firing positions, and Hamas infrastructure, and destroyed approximately six kilometers of underground tunnels, the IDF said. According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Civil Defense Agency, at least 45 people were killed in the Israeli strikes.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, mediated by the United States, went into effect on the night of October 10. On October 13, Hamas released 20 remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners freed by Israel. In addition, Hamas is expected to return 28 bodies of hostages who died in captivity, though not all have been returned yet.
