Until the Yeraskh–Sadarak railway between Armenia and Nakhchivan is built, Armenia will remain under blockade. This statement was made on October 23 during a session of the National Assembly, while discussing the election of a member to the Public Services Regulatory Commission, by opposition “Hayastan” faction MP Artur Khachatryan.

The MP noted that discussions about opening regional connections and lifting the blockade do not reflect actual progress.

He recalled that as early as 2022, the Government circulated a draft decision to open three border checkpoints (Yeraskh–Sadarak, Karahunj, and Kazakh). However, the issue has not entered the Government’s agenda.

“Until the Yeraskh–Sadarak route is built, Armenia will remain blocked. The ‘Trump Route,’ which is so often discussed, cannot operate fully without this section. The route must include not just the 42 kilometers, but the entire stretch up to Yeraskh,” Khachatryan clarified.

The MP also emphasized the importance of the Ijevan–Kazakh route, noting that its opening could provide a shorter connection to Tbilisi as well as to the Caspian Sea.
