The National Security Committee of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, has approved in the first reading a bill establishing the death penalty for terrorists, the parliament’s press service reported.

The Knesset had approved this bill in its preliminary reading on March 1, 2023. The bill was introduced by Limor Son Har-Melech, a member of the far-right Jewish Power party, which is part of the governing coalition.

According to The Jerusalem Post, the bill would impose the death penalty on anyone who “intentionally or through indifference causes the death of an Israeli citizen, when the act is committed with racist motives or hatred toward a particular group.”

And as per The Times of Israel, the Knesset may debate on this bill in its first reading as early as Wednesday.
