The unresolved conflicts in the Caucasus and the fragility of some Central Asian states present most likely flashpoints in the Eurasia region, said Director of U.S. National Intelligence James Clapper.

Speaking in the Senate’s Committee on Intelligence, Clapper said the Nagorno-Karabakh region is another potential flashpoint.

“Heightened rhetoric, distrust on both sides and recurring violence along the line of contact increase the risk of miscalculations that could escalate the situation with little warning,” he said.
