US President Donald Trump has considered establishing contact with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro possible, despite the escalation of military tension in the Caribbean basin by the US.

"At a certain period of time, I'll be talking to him," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office—and in response to reporters’ questions about whether he would be willing to establish contact with Maduro.

The US president reiterated that he “probably would talk to” Maduro, and that he speaks with everyone.

Washington accuses the Venezuelan authorities of not making sufficient efforts in the fight against illegal drug trafficking.
